SUFFERN, N.Y., November 17, 2018 – Monroe Express women's basketball zoomed out to a 40-8 halftime lead and never looked back as they defeated Rockland Community College, 81-30, on Saturday.
The Express held a 16-4 lead at the first quarter break, and a 40-8 halftime lead, holding the Hawks to just eight points in the first half.
In the second half, the Express continued their run, with an 18-10 third quarter score, before cruising to victory with a 23-12 fourth quarter.
With the 81-30 win, the Express move to 2-6 (1-1 Region XV) on the season.
Julie Trowers led the Express with 22 points, 23 rebounds and seven assists, while
Tatyana Forde added 16 points and seven boards.
Brianna Williams also scored in double figures for the Express with 12 points, while
Arianna Johnson recorded double-digit rebounds with 11.
The Express are back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 20 when they travel to the Bronx to take on No. 1-ranked Hostos Community College with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
