BROOKLYN, N.Y., October 6, 2018Ilda Limon gave Monroe Express women's soccer the lead in the 18th-minute and the Express never looked back, as they defeated Kingsborough Community College, 3-0, on Saturday, to move to 2-4 (2-3 Region XV) on the season.

Limon's 18th-minute score off the assist from Esperanza Placido, her second goal of the season, gave the Express the early lead. And just over six minutes later, Leslly Marmolejo found the back of the net for the first time this season, off another assist from Placido, to give Monroe a 2-0 lead.

Kingsborough kept the Express off the scoreboard the rest of the first half, and Monroe headed into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead.

Holding the advantage, the Express kept the shots coming in the second half, but still stood at 2-0, but after holding off a late charge from Ziah Samuel and the Wave, Joanne Chavez sealed the deal for the Express with her 83rd-minute goal. Off a corner kick an assist from Jessica Fernandez De Jesus, Chavez scored for the second time this season, and put the game away for the Express.

Chavez led the Express with nine shots, while Limon added five shots and three on goal. The Express outshot Kingsborough 22-2, with Julia Hermoso keeping a clean sheet for the second-time this season.

The Express will look to keep the momentum going when they visit Nassau Community College on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. in Garden City, N.Y.
