MIDDLETOWN, N.Y., October 16, 2018 – Monroe Express women's volleyball dropped a Region XV match to Orange County Community College, 3-0, on Tuesday, falling to 2-14 (2-13 Region XV) on the season.
 
The Colts took the first set from the Express, 25-15, before quickly jumping out to a 2-0 lead behind a 25-10 second-set victory. The Express rallied to keep the third set close, but SUNY Orange pulled away late, taking the third set, 25-19, to win the match in straight-sets.
 
Jessica Gonzalez led the Express with three kills, six digs and five aces, while Smeritte Colon and Dennyfer Hernandez each tallied eight digs. Rachel Arias notched a team-high 13 aces, while Dawn Franklin and Julie Trowers each had a block.
 
The Express head to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Thursday, Oct. 18 for their final road match of the 2018 regular season where they'll take on Dutchess Community College at 7 p.m. Monroe then returns to Roberto Clemente State Park for their final two home matches of the season as part of a Region XV Double-Dual, taking on the Borough of Mahattan and the Fashion Institute of Technology beginning at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
