NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., October 19, 2017 – >The Monroe Express men's soccer team fell in the final game of the season to the Monroe Mustangs JV squad, 2-0, snapping their eight-game winning streak.
Kashane Ashmeade gave the Mustangs the lead with his eighth minute goal, assisted by Sergio Escribano. The score stood at 1-0 till the 40th minute, when Michel Sonceau extended the Mustangs' lead to 2-0. Though Express outshot the Mustangs JV team, 8-7, they weren't able to find the back of the net.
Keybi Garcia and
Mamadou Diombera led the Express with three shots, two on goal, apiece, while
Mustapha Ceesay tallied two saves in goal. The Express finish their inaugural season, 8-4, highlighted by an eight-game winning streak from Sept. 21 to Oct. 14.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
