NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., October 16, 2017 – The Monroe Express women's volleyball team fell in straight-sets to the Westchester Community College Vikings Monday at the Monroe Athletic Complex, falling to 0-14 on the season.
Monroe took an early lead in the first set, and went back-and-forth with Westchester until the Vikings pulled ahead and took the first set, 25-17. Westchester took the second set by the same score to take a 2-0 lead into the third set.
Once again, Monroe opened an early lead in the third set, but Westchester quickly battled back to take an 12-3 lead, eventually pulling away with a 25-8.
Yarielys Fernandez led the Express with four assists and an ace, while
Jessica Gonzalez totaled a kill, an ace and six digs.
The Express continue their season on Tuesday, Oct. 17 as they travel to Middletown, NY to take on Orange County Community College at 7:00 PM.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
