Monroe Express Women’s Volleyball Falls to FIT and Borough of Manhattan

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., October 14, 2017 – The Monroe Express women's volleyball team fell in straight-sets to the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Borough of Manhattan Community College, 3-0, in their two matches at Dutchess Community College on Saturday, falling to 0-13 on the season.
 
In the first match, FIT pulled away late to take the first set, 25-18, before securing the second and third sets by the final score of 25-7. And against the Borough of Manhattan, the Panthers took the first set 25-11, the second, 25-13 and the third, 25-17. 
 
Against the Fashion Institute of Technology, Yarielys Fernandez led the way for the Express with three kills, while Jessica Gonzalez added three assists and three digs. In the second match, Dawn Franklin recorded four aces, and Jessica Gonzalez led the team with six digs, while Jayleen Otra added an ace and three digs. 
 
The Express continue their 2017 season with a home match at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, NY against Westchester Community College on Monday, Oct. 16 at 7:00 PM.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
