BRONX, N.Y., October 12, 2017 – The Monroe Express women's volleyball team fell in straight-sets to the Rockland Community College Hawks, 3-0 at Roberto Clemente State Park on Thursday, falling to 0-11 on the season.
Rockland took the first set, 25-4, and pulled away late in the second set, 25-22, to take a two-set lead. The Express to an early lead in set three, but once again, the Hawks pulled away late with a 25-13 set victory to finish off the victory.
Dawn Franklin led the way for the Express with three kills and four blocks,
Yarielys Fernandez added two kills and five assistants and
Jayleen Orta led the team in digs with seven.
The Express continue their home stretch with two matches in Poughkeepsie, NY against the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Borough of Manhattan Community College on Saturday Oct. 14 starting at 12:00 PM.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
