BRONX, N.Y., October 11, 2017 – Monroe Express women's volleyball fell to the Sullivan County Community College General, 3-1, Wednesday at the Roberto Clemente State Park, dropping to 0-10 on the season.
The Generals took the first two sets 25-15 and 25-13, but the Express rallied back to win set three.
After Sullivan County and the Express went back-and-forth early in the third set, the Generals extended their lead to 24-18. But with
Dawn Franklin serving, the Express rallied to win eight-straight points, including six-straight match points, to take set three 26-24.
Both teams again went back-and-forth in the fourth set, before Sullivan again pulled ahead, 17-11. The Express closed the gap to just one, 24-23, but the Generals pulled out a 25-23 victory.
Franklin led the Express with a season-high nine kills,
Jayleen Orta led Monroe with seven digs, also a season-high.
The Express continue their home-stretch at Roberto Clemente State Park against Rockland Community College on Thursday Oct. 12 at 7:00 PM EST.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
