John Torres

Head Coach John Torres enters his 5th season with the Monroe Express baseball program, his 7th with Monroe College, and 20th year coaching in the college ranks, and begins the 2023 season with 133 Career victories as a collegiate head coach.

In 2022, Torres led the Express to it’s first NJCAA Region XV Baseball Championship and fell two games shy of a berth in the NJCAA World Series.

In 2021, Torres led the Express to their first-ever NJCAA Region 15 Div. III Baseball Championship tournament appearance in 2021, finishing in third place for the 2021 season.

The 2020 season, Torres' second with the Express baseball program, was cut short after just seven games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Torres took over the program ahead of the 2019 campaign. He led the Express to a seven-win improvement over its first season in 2018. 

Torres served as an assistant coach with the NJCAA Div. I Monroe College Mustangs for two seasons in New Rochelle, N.Y., which reached the JUCO World Series in 2018 for the first time in program history. Torres also served as the head coach for their junior varsity program.

Prior to joining Monroe College, Torres served as the Associate Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at D1 Globe Institute of Technology in 2015, and the Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at D1 New York Institute of Technology in 2014.

Previously, Torres was also Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at D2 Felician University from 2011-13, helping guide the Golden Falcons to a regular season conference title and a final four conference championship appearance in both seasons. He also stepped in as the head coach for 3 games, as the head coach was on maternity leave.

Torres began his coaching career at the Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York, N.Y. in 2003, serving as the head coach for three seasons before stops at St. Joseph's College from 2006-09, the Sussex Skyhawks of the Independent Can-Am League and the Polytechnic Institute of New York in 2010.

Torres started his collegiate baseball career at Wagner College, before playing his final three seasons at the College of Staten Island. Outside of his coaching career, Torres served as a professional scout for the New York Mets in 2009, and was the Clubhouse Manager for the Mets' Single-A affiliate, the Brooklyn Cyclones, for five seasons from 2009-2013.

In addition to coaching the Express baseball team, Torres is also an adjunct professor at Monroe College, teaching courses in sports management.

Torres received his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College in 2007. Master's Degree in sports management from Brooklyn College. Torres is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association, and he received his scouting certification in 2021 from The Baseball Bureau’s Scout School. Torres is the father of two boys, John and Jordan.
