    Assistant Coach - Men's Volleyball
Kayla Ortiz joined the Monroe University - Bronx men's volleyball team as assistant coach in February of 2025. 

In 2025, Ortiz helped the Express reach new heights during her first year as assistant coach. Monroe won its first regional postseason match in program history against Kingsborough on March 25 to earn a berth in the Region 15 Semifinals. The Express also competed in the NJCAA Men's Volleyball National Invitational. 

In addition to her coaching duties with the Express, Ortiz also serves as head coach and assistant coach for the Legacy Volleyball Club U-16 and U-18 teams, respectively. She is also the grants administrator for Legacy as she expanded opportunities for BIPOC low-income athletes by identifying, writing, and overseeing grants. 

No stranger to Region 15, Ortiz was the assistant coach of the Hostos Community College women's volleyball team during the 2021 season. 

In 2020, Ortiz was the coach of the Kraken Volleyball Club in Kirkland, Wash. She instructed various levels through summer clinics and club prep sessions. Ortiz specialized in defensive training for the players.

Ortiz played collegiate volleyball for Hamilton College from 2017 until 2020. As a student-athlete, she produced double-figures in digs several times throughout her collegiate career. The Continentals' libero and defensive specialist was named to multiple New England Small College Athletic Conference All-Academic teams and earned a spot on the school's dean's list three times. Ortiz led Hamilton to two appearances in the NESCAC tournament. 

A native of Mukilteo, Wash., Ortiz started playing volleyball when she was 12 years old at the Northwest Juniors in the Puget Sound region where she led the club in digs. During that time, she earned a selection to the USA High Performance training camp in Michigan where she trained with some of the country's best players. She was also invited to the AVCA Phenom College Prep Combine. 

In high school, she led her 4A varsity team to multiple playoff appearances. As a player for the Kraken Volleyball Club, she propelled her team to winning multiple tournaments. 

Ortiz graduated from Hamilton College in May of 2021 with her bachelor's degree in world politics in Latin America. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Law at the City University of New York Law School and is expected to complete her degree in May of 2025.
