Express Women's Volleyball Once Again Defeats LaGuardia For Fourth Straight Region 15 Win

BRONX – The Monroe University – Bronx women's volleyball team continued its strong start to the season on Tuesday evening, sweeping LaGuardia Community College, 3-0, at Roberto Clemente State Park Gym. The Express won by scores of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-21 to improve to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in Region 15 play. Monroe extends its winning streak to four matches and takes both head-to-head matchups over the Red Hawks this season.

Robyn Eddy led the Express offensively with 13 kills, while Yamelyn Bonilla added six and Sarai Hernandez contributed five.

Monroe controlled the opening set from the start, using a 14-kill performance to take a 25-21 victory and an early 1-0 match advantage.

The Express continued its momentum in the second set, recording 12 kills while holding LaGuardia to just 17 points. Monroe closed out the set, 25-17, to move within one set of the sweep.

LaGuardia battled in the third set, but Monroe maintained control down the stretch to secure a 25-21 victory and complete the 3-0 sweep.

"A win is a win, but we know there's more work to do," Express Head Coach Odaly Aponte-Orta said. "Tonight we got the 'W', but we're still searching for a better rhythm, stronger execution, and more consistency. We'll keep pushing, keep working, and keep getting better every time we step on the court. One game at a time."

Darilenia Paulino orchestrated the Monroe offense with 30 assists, while Ayleenee Salbitani Lopez led the Express with four service aces. Hernandez and Paulino each added two aces.

Jopnerys Espinal Chalas paced Monroe defensively with 14 digs, while Bonilla and Salbitani Lopez each recorded eight.

As a team, Monroe finished with 34 kills, 12 aces, 32 assists, and 46 digs while hitting .120 for the match.

For the Red Hawks (2-6, 2-6 Region 15), Hannah Tenger led the way with six kills, while Rylie Soto recorded nine assists and 13 digs.

Monroe returns to action on Thursday, September 24, against Nassau Community College in Nassau CC Main Gym. The key Region 15 match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
