The Express finish the regular season 4-4 in Region 15 play (8-33 overall). They clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Region 15 Double-Elimination Tournament. In the opening contest between Monroe and Suffolk County, each team scored twice in the opening inning. The Sharks added two runs in the top of the second, highlighted by an RBI single off the bat of Kate Smith. Monroe countered with three runs in the bottom frame. The Express' productive stanza started with a two-run triple to right off the bat of
Ciara Harriott that tied the game at four. Then,
Sonia Rosa gave Monroe – Bronx its first lead of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly.
After the Sharks tied it up in the top of the fourth, the Express answered with two runs in the home half of fourth thanks to a bases-loaded walk by Rosa and an RBI fielder's choice to short courtesy of
Jaliyah Rosario.
Suffolk County scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to once again even the contest.
The bats for the Express exploded in the bottom of the fifth with eight runs. It began with an RBI triple by
Genesis Matias. She ended up scoring on a fielding error during the next at-bat to extent the Blue and Gold's lead to two. Four batters later, Rosa stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. She slapped a single to right which scored two runs and inflated the Express' benefit to 11-7. Monroe managed to build its lead to 14-7. Matias came up to bat with
Lauren Vuorinen on second and two outs. She hit a slow roller to third base and was able to beat out the throw to first. While that happened, Vuorinen rounded third and slid into home plate to clinch the run-rule victory for the Express, 15-7.
"The team is hitting a good stride with the energy that we need to have to be successful in the playoffs next weekend," Express Head Coach
Lauren Farina said.

During the bottom of the fourth inning, Negrillo once again drove in a run with a single for Monroe's second run. Later in the frame, Harriott hit a sacrifice fly to shrink Suffolk County's lead to 11-3. Unfortunately for Monroe, that ended up being the final score.
