NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 10 Monroe University – Bronx women's basketball team continued its perfect start to the season by earning a Region 15 win over Borough of Manhattan Community College, 91-26, at Monroe Athletic Complex on Thursday evening.
Monroe is now 7-0 this year and advances its regional record to 3-0. The Panthers fall to 0-3 both overall and in the region.
The Express led the game from wire to wire, jumping out to a 7-0 lead and never looking back.
Monroe forced 50 turnovers during the evening and scored 65 points off of BMCC's miscues.
"This was one of our better performances this year," Express Head Coach
Damel Ling said. "Everyone was locked in defensively and we created a number of offensive opportunities from our defense. It's just another building block for us."
Five players for the Express reached double figures in scoring, including a game-high 24 points from
Beverly Williams. She shot 10-for-19 from the field, including 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. The Bronx native forced four steals and delivered three assists.
Also helping Monroe – Bronx was
Salimah Williams who netted 15 points, snatched nine caroms, forced six steals, and distributed four helpers.
Aneyah McLamb had a double-double with 13 points and 10 steals, while adding two assists.
Jaeda Kelly registered 12 points, six steals, two providers, and a duo of steals.
Lea Tavarez provided 12 points, including three successful shots from downtown, while adding four steals.
Helping on the glass for Monroe were
Moryliz Marquez,
Aviah Richardson, and
Sade Gibbs who each grabbed six caroms.
Amira McCleod provided five boards.
Jhency Pabon and
Tyra Williams each added two rebounds and just as many steals.
Monroe – Bronx will travel to Maryland on Friday for a test against NJCAA Division II Chesapeake College. Tipoff at Skipjack Arena is set for 6 p.m.
"We will get some rest and hit the road tomorrow for a tough game at Chesapeake," Ling said.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
