GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx women's volleyball team earned a pair of Region 15 victories on the campus of Nassau Community College on Saturday afternoon. Monroe defeated Hostos Community College, 3-0, and then bested Bronx Community College in straight sets.
The Express bump their record to 3-0 in Region 15 play and 6-3 overall.

In the victory over Hostos (1-4, 1-4 Region 15), set scores were 25-12, 25-21, and 25-14. Freshman defensive specialist
Julia Ramos had a productive match for the Express with 10 assists, seven service aces, and three digs. Second-year libero
Yasmel Molina provided 10 digs and five aces. Sophomore middle blockers
Nisa Llanos and
Chelsea Nolasco were strong on the attack with six kills each. They also registered a block apiece. Rookie outside hitter
Gabriela De La Rosa provided five kills, a team-high 12 digs, and a duo of aces. Sophomore right side hitter
Princess Corona added six successful attacks of her own. Classmate
Shirley Garo recorded two service aces, just as many digs, and a kill. Freshman outside hitter
Aleishka Diaz tallied three put downs and five digs.
In the win against Bronx (1-6, 1-5 Region 15) set scores were 25-15, 25-20, and 25-18. As a team, Monroe nailed 22 service aces. De La Rosa had another strong match for the Express with seven kills, eight service aces, just as many digs, and a block. Corona registered five kills, a career-high eight digs, two aces, and a block. Nolasco had a strong contest with four kills and three blocks. Llanos tallied three blocks of her own. Diamondnique Stephenson added three kills, five digs, and an ace. Freshman libero
Arielys Colon generated four digs, three service aces, and an assist. Sophomore setter
Serena Bueno provided a match-high 16 assists to go along with a trio of digs and one service ace. First-year middle blocker
Amanda Zhang chipped in with a pair of blocks, a kill, and a dig.
Monroe – Bronx will return to the Nassau CC Main Gym on Saturday for two more Region 15 matches. The Express will take on Rockland Community College at noon and then Westchester Community College at 2:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
