NORTH BRANCH, N.J. – The Monroe University – Bronx women's volleyball team suffered a non-region loss to Raritan Valley Community College, 3-1, at The Physical Education Building on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-17, 12-25, 17-25, and 19-25. The Express fall to 2-3, while the Lions advance to 5-5.
Leading the way for Monroe was freshman outside hitter
Gabriela De La Rosa who slammed home six kills, scored two service aces, and anchored the defense with eight digs. Sophomore libero
Yasmel Molina had a strong night defensively with a team-high 16 digs, while scoring a pair of aces on the offensive side. Second-year middle blocker
Chelsea Nolasco produced four kills, three digs, and a trio of blocks. Rookie defensive specialist
Julia Ramos had a solid night with seven assists and three digs.
Monroe – Bronx will play its home opener and first Region 15 match of the year against Kingsborough Community College on Thursday evening. First serve at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
