BRONX – The #2-seed Monroe University – Bronx women's volleyball team will battle #3-seed Queensborough Community College in the Region 15 Semifinal on Saturday afternoon. First serve on the campus of Dutchess Community College is set for 12:00 p.m.
The winner of the match will compete for the Region 15 Championship later in the day.
The Express (16-6) will look to capture its second straight regional championship and third consecutive district title. Monroe – Bronx earned a convincing victory in straight sets over #7-seed Westchester Community College in the regional quarterfinal at Monsignor Scanlan Gym this past Thursday evening.
Queensborough (18-5) dominated #6-seed Orange County Community College, 3-0, at RFK Gymnasium on the same night.
The Express won both head-to-head regular season matchups over the Tigers this year. The first match took five sets at RFK Gymnasium on October 1. The second contest was a 3-1 score at Monsignor Scanlan Gym on October 17.
Monroe – Bronx has won six matches in a row over Queensborough, dating back to the 2022 season.
Leading the way for the Express this year has been freshman outside hitter
Aleishka Diaz who is slamming home 2.09 kills per set and producing 2.86 digs per stanza. Sophomore middle blocker
Nisa Llanos has a team-high 45 blocks this season. Second-year libero
Yasmel Molina is anchoring the defense with 3.07 digs per set. Rookie setter
Julia Ramos has 74 total service aces and is generating 2.48 assists per frame so far in 2024. Freshman outside hitter
Gabriela De La Rosa is recording 1.92 kills and just as many digs per stanza.
For the Tigers, Sophomore outside hitter Michelle Liu is knocking down 2.27 kills and recording 1.88 digs per set. Freshman middle blocker Cristina Collier has a team-high 24 blocks in 2024. Sophomore outside hitter Melanie Chuu is generating 2.03 kills and 2.82 digs per frame, plus she has 67 service aces this season. Second-year libero Cynthia Saravia Reyes is anchoring the defense with 4.47 digs per set and ties a team best with 67 service aces on the offensive end.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
