BRONX – The Monroe University – Bronx women's volleyball team will battle Westchester Community College, in the quarterfinal round of the Region 15 Tournament, on Thursday evening. First serve at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium is set for 6:00 p.m.

The winner will move on to the regional semifinal which will take place on the campus of Dutchess Community College, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Saturday, along with the championship match.
The Express (15-6, 11-3 Region 15) enter the Region 15 Championships as the No. 2 seed and will aim for their second straight regional championship and third consecutive district title. The Vikings (6-12, 5-9 Region 15) will be the No. 7 seed.
These two teams met during the regular season back on September 28 as part of the Region 15 double dual on the campus of Nassau Community College. Monroe – Bronx won a thriller in five sets (25-21, 25-19, 24-26, 22-25, and 17-15).
Leading the way for the Express this season has been freshman outside hitter
Aleishka Diaz who is slamming home 2.06 kills per set and producing 2.86 digs per stanza. Sophomore middle blocker
Nisa Llanos has a team-high 39 blocks this year. Second-year libero
Yasmel Molina is anchoring the defense with 3.10 digs per set. Rookie setter
Julia Ramos has 73 total service aces and is generating 2.43 assists per frame so far in 2024. Freshman outside hitter
Gabriela De La Rosa is recording 1.94 kills and 1.92 digs per stanza.
For the Vikings, Second-year player Julia Pawlowicz is scoring 3.17 kills and tallying 4.12 digs per set. She also has 57 service aces and 19 blocks this year. Rookie Gianna DeChico leads in assists with 5.89 per set. Freshman Jourdan Washington is having a strong season with 3.62 digs per stanza. Sophomore Megan O'Hara is tied for the team lead with 19 total blocks this year.
Monroe – Bronx and Westchester are each 5-5 all-time against each other with the Express winning five of the last six meetings.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
