DIX HILLS, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 10 Monroe University – Bronx men's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 6-0 loss to perennial USCAA National Contender Five Towns College on Tuesday afternoon.
Monroe – Bronx drops to 9-4-2 for the season, while the Sound advances their record to 10-4-2.
Five Towns scored four goals in the opening half, including the first pair during the opening 2:33 of the contest, and then added two more during the final 45 minutes of play. Sophomore midfielder Sebastian Cuenca netted the opening and official match-winning tally for Five Towns.
During the afternoon, the Express were outshot, 25-3. The Sound took eight of the 10 corner kicks in the contest.
For Monroe, freshman midfielder
Mustafa Abdulkarim produced two shots, including a point-blank chance from the left side that just sailed to the right of the net. Sophomore midfielder
Krit Raj Maharjan also tallied a shot. In net, freshman goalkeepers
Dwayne Brown and
Angel Grijalva each made three saves for the Express.
For Five Towns, goalkeepers Jose Garcia (freshman) and Eduardo Martinez (senior) combined to earn a shared shutout.
Monroe – Bronx will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Region 15 Championships and will host sixth-seeded Suffolk County Community College in the quarterfinal round. The action at Flowers Park will take place on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
