GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 10 Monroe College – Bronx women's volleyball team continued its winning ways on Saturday, September 23, as the Express earned straight-set victories over Rockland Community College and Westchester Community College. The two contests took place on the campus of Nassau Community College.
Monroe – Bronx is now 6-0 in Region 15 contests (11-1 overall), which marks the team's best regional start in program history.
In the win against Rockland (0-6, 0-5 Region 15), set scores were 25-15, 25-12, and 25-17.
Leading the way for the Express was sophomore outside hitter
Lisanel Rodriguez who slammed home 12 kills, scored eight service aces, anchored the defense with five digs, and added a solo block. She finished with a hitting percentage of .381. Second-year setter
Luisanni Rodriguez also had a productive match with a contest-best 22 assists, plus six service aces, a duo of digs, and one kill. Sophomore outside hitter
Haley Castaneda tallied four successful attacks and three digs, while classmate
Lesly Almonte generated four kills and a pair of digs.

Selena Mitchell scored three kills, added eight digs, and nailed two service aces. Sophomore libero
Valery Nunez had a solid performance with six digs, three assists, and two aces. Freshman middle blocker
Chelsea Nolasco produced two kills and three digs, while sophomore middle blocker
Xing Stewart-Greer recorded two kills and a block. Sophomore outside hitter
Laura Pinales drilled two aces and added a pair of digs, while freshman middle blocker
Maria Melendez tallied two kills and a block. Rookie defensive specialist
Yasmel Molina provided four digs coming off the bench. Freshman middle blocker
Nisa Llanos added four put downs.
In the win against Westchester (2-3, 2-3 Region 15), set scores were 25-13, 25-12, and 25-10.
Lisanel Rodriguez produced a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs, while adding three service aces and a block.
Luisanni Rodriguez once again led all players in assists, this time with 24, while tallying nine digs and four service aces. Mitchell generated seven kills, an ace, and a dig. Stewart-Greer had a strong match with five kills and two blocks. Almonte had four kills and just as many digs. Nolasco and Llanos produced a pair of successful attacks.
Nunez had a productive match with eight digs, five service aces, and a pair of assists. Molina once again chipped in on defense with four digs, and then scored two aces on the offensive end. Pinales provided eight digs and an ace, while Melendez tallied a block. Castaneda slammed home a kill.
Monroe – Bronx will return to action on Tuesday October 3, for a Region 15 showdown against Queensborough Community College. First serve at RFK Gymnasium is set for 8:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
