BRONX - The nationally ranked No. 10 Monroe College women's volleyball team will battle Nassau Community College, in a key NJCAA Region 15 matchup, on Thursday, September 21. First serve at Nassau CC Main Gym is set for 7:00 p.m.
Monroe - Bronx (8-1, 3-0 Region 15) is coming off a pair of Region 15 victories this past Saturday, first knocking Hostos Community College in straight sets, and then defeating Bronx Community College by a score of 3-0. The two matches took place at Nassau CC Main Gym.
Leading the way for the Express this season has been sophomore outside hitter
Lisanel Rodriguez who is scoring 3.65 points per set, slamming home 2.54 kills per stanza, averaging 1.08 service aces per set, and recording 2.12 digs per frame. Second-year libero
Valery Nunez has been a force on the defensive end with 3.77 digs per set. Sophomore setter
Luisanni Rodriguez is having a great all-around season for the Express with 5.27 assists per frame, 2.10 points per game, 1.19 kills per set, and 1.85 digs per stanza.
Nassau (4-2, 3-1Â Region 15) is also coming off a pair of victories this past Saturday afternoon, defeating both Bronx and Hostos in straight sets on its home court.
Freshman outside hitter Sarah Kollarik is making an impact for the Lions this season with 2.80 points per set, 2.35 kills per stanza, and 2.60 digs per frame. Rookie libero Morgan Sullivan has anchored the defense with 5.50 digs per game and has scored 1.20 service aces per set. First-year setter Elizabeth Wagner has been helping out with 4.50 assists per set.
Monroe - Bronx is 3-4 all-time against Nassau County, but the Express won last year's head-to-head matchup with the Lions in straight sets, on the campus of Nassau Community College on October 1, 2022.   Â
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
