BRONX - The nationally ranked No. 10 Monroe College - Bronx women's volleyball team will compete in an NJCAA Region 15 Double Dual, at Nassau Community College Main Gym, on Saturday afternoon, September 16. The Express will battle Hostos Community College at noon and then take on Bronx Community College at around 2:00 p.m.

Monroe (6-1, 1-0 Region 15) is coming off a victory in its Region 15 opener in straight sets over Kingsborough Community College, at Monsignor Scanlan High School Gymnasium, this past Thursday evening.Â
This season for Monroe - Bronx, sophomore outside hitter
Lisanel Rodriguez is scoring 3.75 points per set, including 2.85 kills per stanza. She is also having a strong match defensively with 2.25 digs per set. Second-year setter
Luisanni Rodriguez is anchoring the defense with 2.15 digs per set, while producing a team-best 5.20 assists per frame. Sophomore libero
Valery Nunez is neutralizing the opposition's attack with a team-high 4.50 digs per set. Freshman middle blocker
Chelsea Nolasco has total eight blocks for the Express this year, while rookie middle blocker
Nisa Llanos has generated six blocks in six matches played.
Hostos is 2-1, both overall and in Region 15 play, this year. The Caimans dropped their season opener at home to Fashion Institute of Technology, 3-1, back on September 7, but then earned straight-set victories over host-Borough of Manhattan Community College (September 9) and at home over Bronx (September 12).
Leading the way for Hostos has been rookie outside hitter Rashel Torres who is slamming home 2.20 kills per set, leads the team with seven service aces in 2023, and has recorded 2.20 digs per game. Freshman libero Mariali Sosa is having a strong season defensively with four digs per set. First-year libero Samara Correa has a team-high 4.67 assists per set to go along with 1.56 digs per game. Â
Bronx (0-2, 0-2 Region 15) is off to a slow start this season, as they have dropped road contests to BMCC (September 9) and Hostos (September 12) both by scores of 3-0. Freshman outside hitter Keity Liberata is producing 1.17 kills per set. First-year setter Abigail Cabrera has generated 1.17 points and 1.50 assists per stanza. Freshman middle blocker Leslie Ferrer has tallied 1.50 digs per set.
In the head-to-head history, Monroe - Bronx is 5-0 all-time against Hostos. The Express are 5-4 all-time against Bronx. The Broncos won the first four head-to-head matchups but Monroe - Bronx has been victorious in each the last five meetings.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
