No. 10 Express Women's Volleyball to Host Kingsborough Community College in Region 15 Opener on Thursday, September 14

BRONX - The nationally ranked No. 10 Monroe College - Bronx women's volleyball team will open Region 15 play against Kingsborough Community College, on Thursday, September 14, at 7:00 p.m. It will be Monroe's first ever match on its new home court, Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx.

The Express will look to make it to the Region 15 Championship match for the second year in a row, and this year win it for the first time. That quest officially begins for the 2022 Northeast District B Champions on September 14 against the Wave.

Fans who cannot make it to Throggs Neck can watch the match on our YouTube page. Spectators can also follow the action on our live stats page. Be sure to check out our match program by clicking here

Monroe is off to a 5-1 start this season, including impressive victories over 2022 playoff teams such as Raritan Valley Community College, Broome Community College, and Hudson River Community College. Arguably the most impressive performance by the Express this year came in a five-set thriller against then-nationally ranked No. 7 Finger Lakes Community College, back on August 26. Although the Blue and Gold fell short in the fifth set, they pushed one of the top teams in the nation to the limit by rallying from two sets down to force a rubber stanza.

Leading the way for Monroe this season has been sophomore outside hitter Lisanel Rodriguez who is tallying 2.76 kills per set, has scored 18 total service aces this season, is scoring 3.88 points per stanza, and is anchoring the defense with 2.24 digs per set. Second-year libero Valery Nunez is shutting down the opposition's attack with 4.35 digs per set. Sophomore setter Luisanni Rodriguez leads the team with 5.24 assists per game, is scoring an ace per set, and is stabilizing the defense with 2.12 digs per frame.

Kingsborough opened its 2023 campaign with a 3-1 victory on the road over Mohawk Valley Community College, back on September 5. In their most recent match, the Wave fell short at home to Nassau Community College, 3-1, this past Tuesday evening. Last season, Kingsborough qualified for the both the Region 15 Championships and the CUNY Athletic Conference Postseason.

Propelling the Wave this season has been sophomore Noarie Provers who is generating two kills and 2.64 digs per set. Second-year player Aneesa Leka leads the team with 16 total assists and is anchoring the defense with 1.73 digs per set. Sophomore Victoria Cook has 14 total assists so far this year and leads the team with 2.91 digs per set.

Monroe - Bronx and Kingsborough are 2-2 all-time against each other, but the Express have won the last two head-to-head matchups.
