BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The nationally ranked No. 9 Monroe College - Bronx women's volleyball team earned a pair of victories over Broome Community College, at Baldwin Gymnasium, on Wednesday afternoon, August 23. The first victory was due to a forfeit and then the Express won the second contest in three close sets. Frame scores were 26-24, 25-22, and 25-20.
No. 9 Monroe is now 4-0 to start the year, while this marked the first matches of the season for Broome.Â

Leading the attack for the Express was sophomore outside hitter
Lisanel Rodriguez who slammed home seven kills, while scoring a pair of service aces. The co-captain also anchored the defense with eight digs. Sophomore libero
Valery Nunez led all players with 18 digs, while adding an assist on the offensive end.

Luisanni Rodriguez produced a team-best 12 assists, while nailing two service aces, producing eight digs, and slamming home three kills. Rookie libero
Yasmel Molina helped stabilize Monroe's defense with 12 digs.
First-year middle blocker
Chelsea Nolasco had a productive match with six kills, five blocks, and three digs. Sophomore outside hitter
Selena Mitchell scored five kills, had just as many digs, and tallied three service aces.
Second-year middle blocker
Xing Stewart-Greer generated two kills and just as many blocks, while sophomore outside hitter
Haley Castaneda recorded a pair of kills and three digs. Rookie middle blockerÂ
Nisa Llanos chipped in with two kills and a duo of blocks, while sophomore outside hitter
Laura Pinales added a dig of her own.
Monroe - Bronx will face big tests on Saturday. First, the Express will battle Hudson Valley Community College at 12:00 p.m., and then take on No. 7 Finger Lakes Community College in a battle of nationally ranked teams, at approximately 2:00 p.m. Both matches will take place at Falcon Hall Gymnasium, on the campus of Dutchess Community College, up in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.Â
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
