MIDDLETOWN, NY – Monroe Express baseball continued their extended road trip Monday afternoon, after visiting the Orange County Community College Colts at Colt Baseball Field for the final time this season. The Express came out on top, with a 14-5 final, winning their season series with the Colts, three games to one. Monroe improves to 12-11 on the season with the victory.
The blue and gold asserted their will over Orange in their victory over nine innings, with their strongest showing of the season so far. Monroe opened up scoring in the first inning, when 
Jose Zabala Rodriguez doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. 
Orange attempted to keep up in the second, tying the ball game at one after Kurtis Martin ran home after Derek Sherman advanced on an error. The Express created a two run cushion, but the Colts evened the count in the bottom of the third after Joe Castellanos and Sherman scored on a double to left field hit by Tropey.
The Express took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth, when 
Antwon Beverly tripled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run and Zabala Rodriguez singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run as well.
Monroe notched five runs in the sixth inning. The Express' big bats were led by Zabala Rodriguez, 
Nasir Useini, and 
Ramsel Jerez, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the period.
Jonathan Rondon was the winning pitcher for the Express, as the ace went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits. 
Kevin Montes and 
David Pena entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Ryan Salerno took the loss for Orange. The pitcher allowed three hits and two runs over one inning.
Moises Figuereo started the game for the Express going two innings, allowing one run on zero hits and walking one. Castellanos started the game for the Colts, where he lasted one inning, allowing two hits and one run while striking out one and walking zero.
Monroe saw the ball well today, racking up 18 hits in the game. 
Randy Diaz and Zabala Rodriguez each collected three hits to lead the Express in the big victory.
The Express head east to Selden, NY on Tuesday, April 4th for Region 15 action against the Suffolk County Community College Sharks inside the Ammerman Campus Baseball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
