ARNOLD, MD – Monroe Express baseball headed south for the second time in three days, for another Maryland doubleheader against the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks. The Sunday afternoon slugfest resulted in the Express taking game one, 5-3, and game two 8-4. The Express improve to 6-6 on the season, while the Riverhawks fall to 9-13.
Monroe Express 5, Anne Arundel Riverhawks 3
Express baseball defeated the Anne Arundel Riverhawks in a 5-3 slugfest to begin their Sunday afternoon doubleheader.
The Express opened up scoring in the second inning, when
Randy Diaz doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs. Keeping up the scoring pace, Monroe put up three runs in the third inning. The third stanza offense in the inning was led by
Jose Zabala Rodriguez,
Nasir Useini, and
Imanol Ramos, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Adrian Quezada was the winning pitcher for the Express where the hurler surrendered three runs on five hits over six innings, striking out seven.
Luis Lopez threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen and recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Monroe. Shane Emerson took the loss for the Riverhawks. The bulldog went two innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out one.
The Express saw the ball well today, racking up ten hits in the game where Zabala Rodriguez, Diaz, Ramos, and Useini each collected two hits to lead the way. In addition, Monroe was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
Ernie Farrell had the most chances in the field with eight.
Anne Arundel also didn't commit a single error in the field. Sam D'Amelio had eight chances in the field, the most on the team.

Monroe kept the momentum going and took home an 8-4 victory over the Riverhawks in game two of the day's series.
The Express fired up the offense in the first inning, when
Camilo Rodriguez homered on a 2-1 count, scoring four runs.
Samuel Tejada led the Express to victory on the mound, allowing three hits and four runs over six innings, striking out six.
Victor Vilomar threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Vilomar recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the blue and gold. Jacob MacDonald took the loss for the Riverhawks where he went one inning, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out two.
The Express tallied one home run on the day claimed by
Camilo Rodriguez where he went for the long ball in the first inning. Monroe racked up nine hits in the game, as
Camilo Rodriguez and
Billy Beltre all had multiple hits to lead the Express.
The Express will head north Thursday (Mar. 17) for their first Region 15 contests in a road doubleheader against the Dutchess Community College Falcons inside Dutchess Stadium in Poughkeepsie, NY. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports.
