BRONX – The nationally ranked No. 4 Monroe College – Bronx women's volleyball team will compete in the quarterfinal round of the Region 15 Tournament, as the top-seeded Express will battle the No. 8-seed Kingsborough Community College Wave on Thursday, October 26. The contest will take place at Monroe Athletic Complex, in New Rochelle, N.Y., beginning at 7:00 p.m. The winner of this match will compete in the Region 15 Semifinals, on the campus of Rockland Community College, on Saturday, October 28, at 12:00 p.m. The championship match will take place later that day in the Rockland Community College Gymnasium.
There will be a fan bus taking students from King Hall to the Monroe Athletic Complex and back so that the students will be able to cheer on the Express women's volleyball team in person. The bus will leave King Hall at 6:15 p.m. All students must show their school ID before boarding the bus.

The Express have won 15 matches in a row and finished the regular season undefeated in Region 15 play at 14-0 (19-1 overall). They moved up to No. 4 in the latest NJCAA Division III Women's Volleyball National Rankings on Monday, October 23. They have been guided by reigning Region 15 Coach of the Year
Odaly Aponte-Orta who is in her second year with the program and first season as head coach.
Monroe – Bronx won both head-to-head meetings with Kingsborough this year, taking the first one in straight sets at Monsignor Scanlan Gym on September 14, and then claiming a 3-1 triumph at Kingsborough Gymnasium on October 5.
Leading the way for the Express this year has been sophomore outside hitter
Lisanel Rodriguez who was named the Region 15 Player of the Year earlier this week. She is scoring 4.95 points per set, slamming home 3.54 kills per game, and is anchoring the defense with 3.15 digs per stanza. She has generated eight double-doubles (kills and digs) this year, including a performance of 25 kills and 21 digs at nationally ranked No. 10 Dutchess Community College, on October 21, that helped the Express clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Region 15 Championships.
Second-year setter
Luisanni Rodriguez has been a complete player for Monroe - Bronx this season. The 2023 Region 15 Setter of the Year is averaging 6.92 assists per set and 2.25 digs per frame and has 11 total blocks this year. The Bronx resident has reached double figures in assists in all 19 matches she has played this season, including 43 assists during the Express' thrilling five-set victory over Region 15 rival Queensborough Community College back on October 3.
Sophomore libero
Valery Nunez earned a spot on the All-Region 15 second team this season. She has been a staple on the defensive side for the Express, averaging 5.16 digs per set. She has produced double figures in digs during 13 out of 19 matches she has played this season, including a match-high 38 digs to lead the Express to the key Region 15 regular season finale win at No. 10 Dutchess.
Kingsborough (9-12) advanced to the CUNY Athletic Conference Championship match back on Monday, October 23 and won a set over the eventual league champion Queensborough Community College Tigers.
The Wave have been led by sophomore middle blocker Noarie Proverbs who is slamming home 2.62 kills and producing 4.21 digs per set on her way to being named to the All-Region Honorable Mention team. Second-year setter Aneesa Leka is averaging 4.68 assists and 2.43 digs per game. Freshman libero Miriam Solton has anchored the defense with 3.44 digs per stanza.
Monroe - Bronx is 4-2 all-time against Kingsborough and has won the last four head-to-head matchups against the Wave.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
