Express Women's Volleyball to Battle BMCC and FIT in Region 15 Matches on Saturday, October 14

BRONX – The nationally ranked No. 8 Monroe College - Bronx will have a pair of NJCAA Region 15 matches on Saturday, October 14 on the campus of Borough of Manhattan Community College. The Express will battle the host-Panthers at 12:00 p.m., and then take on the Fashion Institute of Technology Tigers at approximately 2:00 p.m.
 
The Monroe – Bronx women's volleyball team will dedicate both matches to National Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Express are undefeated in Region 15 play at 8-0 and have earned an impressive overall record of 13-1. On October 9, Monroe jumped from No. 10 to No. 8 in the NJCAA National Rankings.
 
Sophomore libero Valery Nunez was named NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week, on October 11, after averaging 6.37 digs per set, generating 51 digs total, and scoring seven service aces over the course of the previous two matches.
 
Second-year outside hitter Lisanel Rodriguez, who was named the NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season, is scoring 4.42 points per set, slamming home 3.30 kills per stanza, averaging 1.05 service aces per set, and recording 2.56 digs per frame so far this season. 
 
Sophomore setter Luisanni Rodriguez is having a great all-around year for the Express with 6.21 assists per set, 1.71 points per game, and 2.21 digs per stanza. 
 
Second-year outside hitter Selena Mitchell is scoring 2.42 points per game, slamming home 1.76 kills per set, and is helping the defense with 1.55 digs per stanza.
 
BMCC (3-9, 3-7 Region 15) is looking to snap its four-match losing streak. The Panthers have been led by freshman outside hitter Sarah Sellami who is scoring 2.05 kills per set. Sophomore libero Garyana Altidor is leading the way defensively with 3.33 digs per stanza.
 
Fashion Institute of Technology (8-7, 6-3) is coming off a thrilling five-set victory over BMCC, on the road, on October 12. Leading the way for the Tigers has been Caitlyn Schildhouse who is slamming home 2.30 kills per set and is producing 1.70 digs per stanza. 
 
Monroe – Bronx is 3-2 all-time against Borough of Manhattan, and 2-4 in its history against Fashion Institute of Technology.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
