Chester, N.Y., March 15, 2022 – On Wednesday afternoon, the Monroe Express baseball team dropped their road contest to Rockland Community College, 14-4 on Wednesday afternoon in Chester, New York. The Express fall to 2-5 with the loss, while Rockland Community College improves to 6-3 with the win.
Rockland Community College put the game out of reach early, scoring seven runs in the first two innings with two in the bottom of first when Ben Partridge scored on a Balk and Joseph Gonzalez on a Nick Varano double play. Rockland added five more in the bottom of the second, with Chris Calavario belting a leadoff home run to make it 3-0, and then Joseph Gonzalez and Dan Tauken both connected on two-run doubles to make it 5-0 and 7-0 going into the top of the third.
Ernie Farrell finally got the Express on the board with a solo shot to open the top of the third.
Ruben Ogando (Providence, Rhode Island) went yard in the top of the fourth with a two-run shot to get Monroe-Bronx within four runs, 7-3, but that was the
closest they would get as
Gavyn Soto (New York, New York) and
Michael Olivo (Bronx, New York) both walked in three straight batters to make it 10-3 and never looked back taking the game 14-4.
Jose Pena started the game for the Express and took the loss allowing two hits and five runs over one and one-third innings while striking out one.
Varano picked up the victory on the hill for Rockland Community College, surrendering one run on two hits over three innings with four strikeouts and no walks.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
