Diallo’s Career-High 17 Points Guides Monroe Express Women’s Basketball To Third Straight Win At Home Over Springfield Technical College

New Rochelle, NY, February 5, 2021 – On Saturday evening, the Monroe Express women's basketball team coasted to a 70-58 victory over Springfield Technical Community College at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Express's third straight victory improves their record to 16-7 while the Rams fall to 6-10 with the loss.

Ramatoulaye Diallo (Brooklyn, New York) put up a career-high 17 points on a career-best 7-for-13 shooting on the evening. Sophomore Tariah Bryant (Brooklyn, New York) added 11 points and dished out a game-high five assists while freshman Nyeira Spady (New Rochelle, New York) hauled down a game-high 13 rebounds and snatched a game-best six steals. Classmate Maria Negron (Bronx, New York) had scored nine points of her own and contributed eight boards while Bryant and freshman Taina Maldonado (New York, New York) also had four steals each.
 
The Express got off to a quick start recording nine of the first 12 points before the Rams trimmed the deficit down to five, 9-4 at 6:27 on a Quiana Dishface jumper. Monroe-Bronx closed out the period on a 13-4 run to lead 22-8 after one. Springfield Tech clawed back to within 10 at 6:18, 24-14 on Essence Richardson jumper, but the Express would not let them come any closer, scoring 11 of the final 17 points of the quarter to lead 37-20 going into the halftime break.

Springfield Tech outscored Monroe-Bronx 22-17 in the third quarter bringing the deficit down to 12, 54-42 with eight seconds left on a Katye Ustermenko jumper going into the final quarter of play. The Express put the game away early in the fourth using an 11-2 run to build the lead to its largest mark of the night by 21, 65-44 at 6:01 on a Diallo layup. Monroe-Bronx cruised the rest of the way en route to a 70-58 victory.

For Springfield Technical College, three players finished the game in double figures, with Essence Richardson leading the way with a game-high 18 points. Quiana Dishface had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Hasana Akinoye added ten points. Akinoye also snatched a team-high four steals, and Richardson, Dishface, and Emma Ferritti all dished out a team-best two assists each.

The Express women's basketball team will look to extend their winning streak to four and remain perfect in Region 15 play on the road Tuesday against Nassau Community College at 6 p.m. in Garden City, New York. ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 17 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
