Monroe Express Men's Basketball Sets Single-Season Record For Wins With 18 Coasting To A 86-46 Road Victory Over Kingsborough Community College

Brooklyn, NY, February 10, 2021 – The Monroe Express men's basketball team rolled over Kingsborough Community College on Thursday night, 86-46, in their final road game of the season for their 18th win, setting a new single-season record and surpassing the previous mark of 17 set in 2018-19. The victory improves Express to 10-4 in Region 15 play with the victory while the Wave fall to 2-16 and 2-10 in Region 15 play.
 
Monroe-Bronx had a season-high six players score in double-figures led by Sophomore Jabnel Cordero (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) who dropped a game-high tied 17 points. Classmate Isaiah Stone (Baldwin, New York) contributed 13 points, and freshman  Jasigha Barnes (Baldwin, New York) and sophomore Issac Johnson (Bronx, New York) both had 11 points, while sophomore Jaiden Simon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Siddiq McNair (Philadelphia, Pennslyvania) added 10 points each.
 
For Kingsborough Community College, three players put up double-digit scoring performances led by Neilon Bridgeman, who drained a game-best tied 17 points. Nicholas Vadi and Tyrese Grant also contributed 12 points and 11 points, respectively.

Notables –
  • Sophomore Jabnel Cordero (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) put up his sixth straight double-figure scoring performance and now has a team-high 52 three-pointers made, which is one short of Louis Florimon's mark of 53 for the single-season record. Cordero is currently second on the team in scoring average at 11.3 points per game and defensively is third with 36 steals.
  • Sophomore Isaiah Stone (Baldwin, New York) leads the team with 19 double-figure games after his performance tonight and leads the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game and has 372 points which are third-most in a single season. He has also set a single-season record for rebounds with 282 total rebounds, which is tops in the country and 11.3 rebounds per game which is tenth in the nation.
  • Freshman Jasigha Barnes (Baldwin, New York) recorded his fourth straight double-figure game and 15 total this season while leading the team with 124 assists, a single-season record, and eighth in the country. Barnes also leads the team in steals with 55 while being second in points with 291 and third in scoring average at 11.2 points per game.
  • Sophomore Issac Johnson (Bronx, New York) recorded his fourth straight double-figure game and 11th on the season.
  • Sophomore Jaiden Simon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded his third double-figure game, and freshman Siddiq McNair (Philadelphia, Pennslyvania) registered his second double-figure performance in his last three games and sixth on the season.
  • The Express have five players with 100 or more rebounds for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 17 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
