LINCOLN, RI – Monroe College-Bronx Women's Volleyball achieved victory in their first Northeast District B Championship appearance, defeating the Community College of Rhode Island Knights in four sets, (25-13, 25-14, 22-25, 25-16), in Lincoln, RI. With the historical win, the Express have punched their ticket to the NJCAA National Championships, to hopefully avenge their Region 15 Championship defeat to the Dutchess Community College Falcons.
Although relinquishing the third period to the Knights, the Express' margin of victory was by an average of 10.6 points in the sets won. Lisanel Rodriguez had an inspiring performance, leading the way with 27 points, 20 kills on 37 swings, 16 digs, six service aces and one block. Lesly Almonte had a career game, with 17 points (career high), 15 kills (career high), two digs and two service aces. Luisanni Rodriguez continued to share the ball at a high rate registering 26 assists in the contest.
The Express will travel to Rochester, MN to compete in the NJCAA National Championship tournament from November 10-12, 2022. More details will come in the following days.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
