New Rochelle, NY, January 27, 2021 – The Monroe Express men's basketball team was clicking on all cylinders offensively going off for a season-high 52 first half points in a dominant 84-52 victory over Regional opponent Kingsborough Community College on Thursday evening at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Express's second straight victory improves their record to 15-6 overall (8-3 Region XV) while the Wave drops to 2-12 (2-10 Region XV).
The Express had five players score in double-figures for the second time this season. Sophomore
Jabnel Cordero (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) led the offensive attack dropping a game-high 18 points and tying another with nine rebounds to go along with four three-pointers, which tied a career-best. Classmate
Jaiden Simon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted a season-high 14 points, eight of them coming in the first half, while fellow sophomore
Isaiah Stone (Baldwin, New York) missed his team-leading 14th double-double by one rebound scoring 12 points and grabbing a game-best tied nine boards on the night. Freshmen
Jasigha Barnes (Baldwin, New York) and
Siddiq McNair (Philadelphia, Pennslyvania) scored 12 and 11 points, with
Barnes dishing out a game-best seven helpers on the night. Stone also gave out six assists and tied a game-best alongside freshman Chad Duke (Brooklyn, New York) with two steals.
The Express dominated the Wave in the paint all night, outrebounding them 50-27 and outscoring them 44-16 while converting for 21 points off of 15 forced turnovers. Monroe-Bronx shot 70% or better from the charity stripe for the fourth straight contest finishing at 90% from the line (9-for-10), and got 20 points from their bench.
Monroe-Bronx put forth their best first-half performance of the season after Kingsborough opened the scoring 26 seconds in on a three-pointer from Nicholas Vadi, registering the following nine points to stretch the lead to six, 9-3 after a pair of
Simon free-throws at 16:37. The Wave got as close as four, 9-5 at 16:29 on a Neilon Bridgeman jumper, but would not get any closer as the Express outscored them 43-21 to build the lead to its largest mark of the first half, 26, 52-26 with 48 seconds left when
Simon cashed in on a pair of free throws and taking a 52-28 advantage into the halftime break.
The Express never let up in the second half, eventually stretching the lead to its largest mark of the night, 43, 73-30 on a
Cordero layup at 12:13, and coasted the rest of the way to 84-52 victory.
Jason Whea led Kingsborough offensively with a team-high 12 points and four assists, while Evan Dowden chipped in with 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
The Express will look to extend three against the Monroe Mustangs in an inter-campus showdown Sunday, January 30 at 3 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The game was moved to Sunday due to inclement weather on Saturday and for more information, visit the

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
