Baltimore, MD, January 23, 2021 – After a miraculous 21-point second-half comeback a night ago, the Monroe Express women's basketball team looked to remain perfect on the road facing another challenge from the #6-nationally-ranked CCBC Essex Knights. The Express lost by the final score of 100-47 on Sunday afternoon at the CCBC Essex Wellness & Athletics Center in Baltimore, Maryland, falling to 13-4 on the season, while the Knights remain perfect at 18-0.
Sophomore
Tariah Bryant's (Brooklyn, New York) and freshman
Shashauna Ballantyne (Brooklyn, New York) led all Express scorers eight points each, while freshman
Nyeira Spady (New Rochelle, New York) brought down a team-high 11 rebounds. Sophomores
Ramatoulaye Diallo (Brooklyn, New York) and
Bryant also collected team-bests in assists and steals with four each.
CCBC Essex had five players score in double figures on the afternoon, with Patricia Anumgba leading the charge with a game-high 18 points and eight assists while snatching six steals, also a game-high. Lyric Swann and Jaelyn Swann recorded 14 and 13 points, while Kendal Haggerty and Lillian Harris chipped with 12 and 10 points, respectively. In addition, Anasia Staton, Vanessa Woodfork, and Kelly Foster all swatted a game-best two shots.
The Express women's basketball team looks to get back in the win column when they face their second consecutive ranked opponent #6-nationally ranked Rowan College of Gloucester County on Tuesday, January 24th against at 5 p.m. in Sewell, New Jersey. For more information, visit the

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 17 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
