New Rochelle, N.Y., January 18, 2021 – After an early challenge over three minutes into the game, the Monroe Express men's basketball team blew the doors off of Borough of Manhattan Community the rest of the way en route to a 76-49 victory on Tuesday evening at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Express surpassed their wins total from the 2019-20 season and extended their winning streak to a season-high tied three improving to 13-5 (7-2 Region XV) on the season while the Panthers fall to 1-9 (1-5 Region XV).
On the evening, four Express players scored in double-figures, with sophomore
Isaiah Stone (Baldwin, New York) posting his team-leading 13th and third straight double-double with game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Freshmen
Jasigha Barnes (Baldwin, New York) and
Siddiq McNair (Philadelphia, Pennslyvania) both contributed 12 points each, while upperclassman
Onterio Miller (Bronx, New York) added 11 points of his own.
Barnes also distributed a career and game-high nine assists, and sophomore
Jabnel Cordero (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) snatched a game-high three steals.
The Express pressured BMCC into 28 turnovers in the contest and scored 34 points off of them while outrebounding the Panthers 37-31. Monroe-Bronx's bench was huge on Tuesday evening, with
McNair and
Miller coming off the bench to register double-digit scoring performances while outscoring BMCC 31-15 in bench points.
The Borough of Manhattan Community College challenged the Express early, scoring six of the first 11 points of the game to lead 6-5 at 16:50 on a Jeremy Gonzalez layup. However, Monroe-Bronx grabbed control of the game from there, going on an 11-2 run to lead by eight, 16-8 on a Cordero three-pointer at 12:27 then extending the lead to double-digits, 34-23 at 4:18 on a McNair layup and kept it that way going into halftime with a 36-25 lead.
Monroe-Bronx kept the pedal to the metal in the second half using a 16-5 run to increase their lead to 20 for the first time, 50-30, and then 22, 52-30 with a pair of
Stone field goals at the 15:41 and 14:25 mark. The Express's lead never got below 20 for the remainder of the game, eventually stretching their lead to 31, the largest of the night 74-43 on an Issac Johnson (Bronx, New York) layup at 2:03, and cruised the rest of the way.
For Borough of Manhattan Community College, Jeremiah Cardi led the Panthers scoring efforts with nine points and tied for team-high two assists and two blocks. Jeremy Gonzalez dished out a team-best tied two assists and snagged a team-high two steals, while Emmanuel Adenekan tied for a team-best with two blocks.
The Express will look to extend their winning streak to four the longest of the season against Bronx rival Hostos Community College in Regional action on Thursday, January 20 at 8 p.m. at the Swamp in Bronx, New York. For more information, visit the

Notables –
- Isaiah Stone (Baldwin, New York) leads the country in total rebounds with 227 this season and surpassed Gian Batista, a 1,000 point scorer and the most decorated player in the program's history for the single-season mark in rebounds of 211 with 216 after a 16 rebound performance against Omnia Basketball Academy on January 13, 2022. His 227 rebounds after tonight are the third-most in program history, passing Christopher Davis's mark of 203 during his time from 2018-19.
- Stone also has become the leader in all-time program history in rebounding average with a 12.6 mark passing Dashawn Hines's 8.4 rebounds per game from 2018-19. He is also fifth in the country in rebounding average (12.6 RPG).
- Stone has now recorded double-doubles in three straight games in all three months of the season. He recorded three consecutive double-doubles in the first three games of the 2021-22 season in November (November 9 – Nov.16) and achieved the same feat a month later in December (Dec. 4-Dec.11).
- He also leads the Express with 14 double-digit rebounding performances in 17 contests this season and hauled down a career-high 19 rebounds in an upset victory over then #2 Nassau Community College on December 2, 2021.
- Stone also leads the Express with 14 double-figure games in 17 contests this season and is tops of the team with four 20 point games this year. He is the Express's leader in scoring with a 16.5 PPG and has swatted away a team-best 12 shots this year.
- He is also second on the team in assists (41) and steals (27)
- Jasigha Barnes (Baldwin, New York) recorded his tenth double-digit scoring performance this season and his first since December 18, 2021, against Bryant and Stratton. He is now second in scoring average on the team at 10.6 PPG and is the Express's leader in assists (82) and steals (47) and second in blocks (10).
- Barnes has also recorded two or more in 17 of 18 contests, and his team-leading 82 assists are now the third-most in a single season, passing Loquan Deloatch from 2018-19 and tenth in the country. He has also recorded three or more assists 15 times this year and five for a fifth time this season. He has also posted five or more assists nine times on the year.
- Barnes has also grabbed two or more steals 11 times this season, and his team-high total of 47 steals is now tied for second-most in a single season with Gian Batista and Christopher Davis. He has currently surpassed Gian Batista's steals per game average with a single-season record of 2.3 steals per game.
- Barnes is also second in 67 field goals made and 183 field goals attempts and third with 21 three-pointers made and 63 three-pointers attempted.
- Onterio Miller (Bronx, New York) registered his ninth double figure game this year and Siddiq McNair (Philadelphia, Pennslyvania) notched his third on the season.
- Miller and Jabnel Cordero (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) both have knocked down a team-best 31 three-pointers this season which is also fifth-most in a single season.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
