NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., April 30, 2021 – In the final home game it will play in New Rochelle this season, the Monroe College Express baseball team dropped a 14-2 decision to ASA Brooklyn on Friday. The Express will finish off the regular season with home games at its original home of Roberto Clemente State Park in the Bronx, beginning on Saturday. The Express fall to 6-11 overall with the loss.

The Avengers took an early lead in the top of the second on Friday. With runners on first and second, Ivan Santos hit an RBI single into right field to give the Avengers a 1-0 lead.

The Express quickly tied things up in the bottom of the second.
Alexander Aponte singled to center. He then stole second, and the throw went into centerfield, allowing him to move up to third.
Malvin Gutierrez then brought him in on a single to knot things up at 1-1.

ASA loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the fourth. After a strikeout, Santos brought in a run on a fielder's choice to put the Avengers ahead, 2-1. Marlon Pertuz then brought in another run on a sacrifice fly to leave the visitors on top, 3-1.

The Express once again got a run back in the home half of the fourth. With the bases loaded,
Jalfani Cruz hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring
Joseph Rosario to get the Express back within a run.

Things got off track for the Express in the top of the fifth. The Avengers scored 11 runs on just three hits to take a 14-2 lead.

Chris Dominguez shouldered his first loss of the season, falling to 3-1 on Friday. Luis De Los Santos got the win for ASA.

Gutierrez picked up an RBI after hitting 1-for-1 in the game. Aponte and Rosario each batted 1-for-2 with a run scored. Cruz finished 0-for-1, but contributed an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Demetrio Rodriguez hit 2-for-3 in the game.

The Express and Avengers go head to head two more times on Saturday, May 1, in the 2021 debut of Roberto Clemente State Park as the Express' home field. Game 1 is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 17 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
