Monroe Express Women’s Basketball Keeps Up Record Start; Breezes By BMCC On The Road, 92-25

New York, N.Y. (November 18, 2021) – After posting the biggest victory in program history two days ago, the Monroe Express women's basketball team showed no signs of a letdown. Instead, the Express got after their opponent from the opening tip coasting to a 92-25 road victory over Borough of Manhattan Community College Thursday evening at BMCC Gymnasium. The Express continue to add to their record-setting start, improving to 5-0 (2-0 Region XV) while the Panthers fell to 0-2 (0-2 Region XV).

The Express offense fired on all cylinders registering the biggest scoring output of the year with a season-high 92 points. Four players finished the night in double figures, led by Shashauna Ballantyne (Brooklyn, New York), who dropped a career and game-high 14 points and scooped up eight steals, also a career and game-best. Ramatoulaye Diallo (Brooklyn, New York) had 13 points in the contest, while Crystal Traverso (Bronx, New York) and Magnama Traore (Conakry, Guinea) chipped in with 12 points and 11 points. Traore hauled in a game-high nine rebounds, and Zyane Rowe Ramirez (Brooklyn, New York) dished out a game-best four assists.

Monroe-Bronx put up season-highs in five other categories, shooting a season-high 51.8% from the field (43-83 FG) and outscoring the Panthers in the paint 64-6. The Express forced a season-best 47 turnovers, scored 48 points off them, and got 57 bench points on the evening.

Monroe-Bronx jumped all over the Panthers from the get-go in the first quarter. After a Brianna Yard jumper tied the game at two at the 9:33 mark, the Express took control with a 14-0 run extending their advantage to 14, 16-2 on a Traore layup at the 4:38 mark. Monroe-Bronx's lead would increase to its largest of the first quarter by 18 twice, 24-6, on a Traverso layup at 1:47 and with 14 seconds left on a jumper by Ramirez to make it 26-8 after one.

Express dominated the entire second quarter holding BMCC without a field goal to go into halftime with a comfortable 45-10 lead after outscoring the Panthers 19-2 in the period.

The second half was more of the same as the Express outscored BMCC 47-15 in the third and fourth quarter to remain undefeated with a 92-25 victory.

Syrina Ganputt led the Panther's offense on the night, posting a team-high nine points, while Jan Jilliene Alday and Bryana Yard hauled down a team-best six rebounds apiece.

The Express will take their undefeated record into the weekend as they begin a two-game homestand against Community College of Rhode Island on November 21 at 3:30 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex. For more information, visit the Monroe Express Women's Basketball Schedule Page.
