CRANFORD, N.J., September 20, 2019 – After a hot start to the season that saw the Monroe College Express women's volleyball team win its first three matches, the Express saw their winning streak come to a halt on Thursday, as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at Union County College. The Express fall to 3-1 on the year, while the Owls improve to 5-3 with their fifth straight win.
Dennyfer Hernandez led the Express with five kills on the evening.
Reyna Cano added four, while
Jeribeth Hodge and
Irianna Castillo each had three. Hodge led the team with 24 assists.
Smeritte Colon had a pair of service aces in the match.
Rachel Arias added 12 assists.
The Express will look to bounce back in a big Region XV tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Express will take on Suffolk County Community College to start their day at 12 p.m., followed by a match against Nassau Community College at 1:15 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 12 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
