Monroe Express Baseball Blanks BMCC to Win its Fourth-Straight

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., April 30, 2019 – Monroe Express baseball earned an 11-0, run-rule shortened, five-inning victory over Borough of Manhattan Community College on Tuesday at Dick Caswell Field to increase its winning streak to four games.

Jason Veras got the start for the Express and made quick work of the Panthers with a 1-2-3 top of the first.

In the bottom of the inning, A.J. Torres reached on an error and stole second. Torres moved to third on Emanuel Veras' grounder to short before Jesus Tejada gave the Express the lead with an RBI single to right.

The Express added to their lead with six runs in the bottom of the third, all of which came with two outs. Juan Jorge singled to center and stole second. Emanuel Veras and Tejada followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases for Devon Marrero. Marrero knocked a three-run triple to right centerfield, clearing the bases and extending Monroe's lead to 4-0.

Gorge Garcia then singled to right, scoring Marrero from third to make it a 5-0 lead and force BMCC to make a pitching change. The Express kept the run-scoring going though, as Harold Valdez singled to left off Koby Johnston. A passed ball moved Valdez to second and Garcia to third, before Jesus Hilario walked to re-load the bases.

Miguel Reicino then stroked a two-run single to left, scoring Valdez and Garcia, to give the Express a 7-0 lead.

Jason Veras set the Panthers down in order again in the top of the fourth, and the Express added four more runs in the bottom of the inning. Jorge drew a leadoff walk, stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Emanuel Veras drew another walk, and Tejada followed with a sacrifice fly to left to give Monroe an 8-0 lead.

Veras took third on Marrero's single, and Garcia walked to once again load the bases for the Express. Valdez reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Veras from third. And Marrero came around to score on a throwing error by the shortstop to make it an 11-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Veras worked around a two-out single, just the second hit he allowed all game, to finish off the 11-0, run-rule victory.

Veras (2-5) earned the win, pitching a two-hit shutout, walking one and striking out six. Andys Ventura (0-3) took the loss for the Panthers.

With the win, the Express move to 8-22 (6-12 Region XV) on the year, while the Panthers drop to 2-17 (2-17 Region XV).
