BRONX, N.Y., October 10, 2019 – The Monroe College Express women's volleyball won their second straight match on Thursday, defeating Rockland Community College in a back-and-fourth five-set thriller.
With the win, the Express improve to 14-2 overall and 12-1 in Region XV play.
Rockland came out on top in the first set, picking up a 25-15 victory. In the second frame, the Express bounced back, answering with a 25-18 win to even the match at 1-1. The Hawks retook the lead in third set, notching a 25-23 victory. Monroe answering back once aging in the fourth, tying the match with a 25-13 win. In final set, the Express pulled away late to take the se 15-13.
Dennyfer Hernandez paced the Express with 17 kills to go along with her 15 digs.
Irianna Castillo posted nine kills, seven digs, and two aces while
Reyna Cano recorded nine kills and 10 aces.
Jeribeth Hodge picked up a double-double of 33 assists and 12 digs along with nine service aces.
Julie Trowers tallied seven kills, four digs, two blocks in the win.
The Express will return to action at home on Saturday, October 12 hosting Bronx Community College at Roberto Clemente State Park.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
