Monroe Express Men’s Basketball Races Past Kingsborough, 100-59

BROOKLYN, N.Y., January 5, 2019 – With seven players scoring in double-figures, the Monroe Express men's basketball team topped the Kingsborough Community College Wave, 100-59, on Saturday to win their fourth straight, and their third-straight road contest.
 
After doubling-up the Wave, 50-25, in the first half, put up 50 again in the second half, outscoring Kingsborough by 16, 50-34, to pick up the 100-59 victory.
 
Gian Batista led the way for the Express with 20 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, while Loquan Deloatch, Luis Aviles and Tyhj Peterson each added 14 points apiece.
 
Aviles recorded his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, adding a team-high five steals, while Dashawn Hines and Taffari Jarvis also scored in double-figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Monroe shot 46.2 percent from the floor and recorded a season-high 29 assists in the victory.
 
The Express will try to win their fifth in a row when they host Queensborough Community College on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
