VALHALLA, N.Y., October 4, 2018 – Monroe Express women's volleyball fell to Westchester Community College, 3-0, in a hard-fought match on Thursday, dropping to 1-9 (1-8 Region XV) on the season.
The Vikings took the first set, 25-20, before pulling out a closely-contested 25-19 second set victory. The Express battled back, but Westchester took the third set by the same score as the first, 25-20, to earn the three-set victory.
Dennyfer Hernandez led the way for the Express with eight kills, five aces and 10 digs for a team-high 13 points, while
Dawn Franklin added six kills and four blocks.
Rachel Arias once again led the Express with her 15 assists, while
Jessica Gonzalez and
Liz Moralez tied for the team-lead with 11 digs.
The Express are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 6 when they host Queensborough and Kingsborough in a Region XV Double-Dual at Roberto Clemente State Park beginning at 12 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
