Monroe College Express Women’s Soccer Edged by Suffolk County

SELDEN, N.Y., October 4, 2018 – Though the two Region XV-foes were scoreless at the half, Monroe Express women's soccer fell to Suffolk County Community College, 4-0, on Thursday, dropping to 1-4 (1-3 Region XV) on the season.
 
While the Sharks outshot the Express, 20-1, in the first half, Julia Hermoso made first-half 11 saves and the Express held SUNY Suffolk scoreless through 45 minutes of play.
 
But the Sharks broke through on Mikayla Ritter's second-half goal, just 11 minutes into the second half, to take a 1-0 lead. Ritter made it 2-0 just over 12 minutes later with her second goal of the match, and the Sharks pulled away in the later stages, adding two more goals to take home a 4-0 victory.
 
Esperanza Placido and Ilda Limon each tallied a shot for the Express, while Hermoso made a career-high 24 saves.
 
The Express continue their road-stretch on Saturday, Oct. 6 when they take on Kingsborough Community College at 12 p.m. in Brooklyn, N.Y.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
