POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., October 21, 2017 – The Monroe Express women's volleyball team dropped in their final two matches of the season on Saturday, falling to Suffolk County Community College 3-0 and Nassau Community College, 3-0 at Dutchess Community College.
The Sharks took the first match in straight-sets, winning the first set 25-6, the second 25-5 and the third, 25-8. Jayleen Otra led the Express with three kills, while
Yamilet Rodriguez added four digs.
In the second match, Nassau quickly jumped out to an early lead, taking set one 25-9 and set two 25-6, before finishing off the victory with a 25-11 third set win.
Dawn Franklin led Monroe with three kills while
Jetsabeth Acosta and
Yarielys Fernandez each added five digs.
The Monroe Express women's volleyball team finishes their inaugural season with a 0-18 record.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
