VALHALLA, N.Y., October 12, 2017 – Behind three second half goals, the Monroe Express women's soccer team topped Kingsborough Community College, 3-0, Thursday at Westchester Community College.
After a scoreless first half,
Deisy Rodriguez put the Express ahead 1-0, finding the back of the net with a shot from top of the box over keeper in the 57
th minute.
Just eight minutes later,
Goddess Gilbert scored the first of her two goals against The Wave, this one coming in the 65
th minute to make it 2-0.
Gilbert's second goal made it 3-0 Express in the 86
th minute and the Express moved to 2-8 with the 3-0 victory, their second win of the season over Kingsborough.
The Express outshot The Wave, 22-4, including 12 more shots on goal. In goal for Monroe,
Jazmin Alcaraz saved both shots on goal for Kingsborough.
The Express wrap up their road schedule on Friday, Oct. 13 at 4:00 PM as they head to the Borough of Manhattan Community College.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
