QUEENS, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx Athletics Department earned multiple honors from the All Sports Assigning Professionals (ASAP) at the organization's annual sportsmanship recognition night on Monday. The Express Athletics Department was honored with the prestigious Mickey Crowley Cup, which is an award handed out every year to the institution in Region 15 that displays the best sportsmanship. Also, the Monroe – Bronx softball team earned the Region 15 Softball Sportsmanship Award for 2025-26.
The winners were determined by a selection process conducted by game officials across Region 15.
ASAP Owners Brandon Cruz and Fred DeJesus awarded the Mickey Crowley Cup to Director of Athletics
David Spiegel and then bestowed Express Softball Head Coach
Lauren Farina with the Region 15 Softball Sportsmanship Award.
The cup is named after Mickey Crowley, a former basketball official who eventually became an assigner and supervisor of officials for Region 15. At first, teams were solely awarded individual sportsmanship awards for their contributions to a safe environment for student-athletes, coaches, fans, and officials. Since 2006, the Crowley Cup has included all sports and is awarded to the institution with the greatest number of points across all Region 15 sports, voted on by the officials.
"This award is a testament to the character of our Express student-athletes and coaches," Spiegel said. "To be selected for the Crowley Cup by officials across all the sports we compete in means our program has developed a strong reputation on and off the field and court. I'm incredibly proud of all who represent the Monroe Express for helping us earn such a distinctive honor."
The tradition of the Crowley Cup is based on the institution's staff and their ability to foster a healthy environment for all participating factions at sporting events. In honor of the recently deceased Crowley, the cup embodies an institution that puts the game-day crew first.
Regarding the Express softball team earning the Sportsmanship Award for its sport, Farina showed great excitement. "This honor truly means a lot and is a testament to the culture we've continued to build as a program," Farina said. "I am so proud of the team for playing the game the right way and for having the loudest dugout in Region 15!"
