BRONX – Darren Lopez, of the nationally ranked No. 9 Monroe University - Bronx men's volleyball team, earned Region 15 Athlete of the Month Honorable Mention status for March. The full announcement by Region 15 was made on Monday afternoon which can be seen here. This is Lopez's second-straight monthly honor from the region as he was previously named Region 15 Athlete of the Month for February. 

Lopez generated 107 kills, 83 digs, and 34 service aces during the month of March. The sophomore outside hitter faced plenty of nationally ranked teams in the country during the month, including the nationally ranked No. 1 College of DuPage and No. 3 Nassau Community College. He produced double figures in kills and digs three times each this month.

Thanks to his strong performance this year, the nationally ranked No. 9 Express secured the #3-seed in the upcoming Region 15 Tournament. Monroe will battle #6-seed Hostos Community College in the first round of the regional tournament on Thursday evening. First swerve at The Swamp (Hostos CC Campus) is set for 7 p.m. 

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
